the Joint Usage Center on Education of Higher Education
The Joint Usage Center on Education of Higher Education system was established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) with the aim of promoting diverse and advanced forms of university education as a whole.
The system encourages the shared use of human and material resources across universities in order to respond to increasingly diverse social contexts and student needs while ensuring the provision of high-quality education. [MEXT official website]
To date, the Center for Education of Global Communication(CEGLOC) at the University of Tsukuba has been certified under this system as The Center for Distance Learning of Japanese and Japanese Issues for three consecutive terms
(Phase I: 2010–2014, Phase II: 2015–2019, Phase III: 2020–2024).
Building on the resources and achievements cultivated through these previous phases, CEGLOC will launch a new initiative entitled the Japanese Language Support Hub for Accessible Resources and Education(J-SHARE) as a Joint Usage Center on Education of Higher Education, starting in FY 2026, with the aim of further development and continuity.
Purposes and Goals
As a core institution for Japanese language education, the Hub aims to establish a nationwide network and community infrastructure and to promote the advancement of Japanese language education through an “All-Japan” collaborative framework.
Building on the resources and expertise accumulated through the Center for Distance Learning of Japanese and Japanese Issues, the Hub will develop a Japanese language learning advising environment centered on the integration of portal-based learning content and a learning portfolio system.
Through these efforts, the Hub seeks to enhance the quality of Japanese language learning for undergraduate and graduate international students with diverse backgrounds and goals, while achieving more efficient learning support and sustainable, long-term assistance, including support for graduate school advancement and career development.
